Your departure to South Africa

Once we have your flights booked, the next step will be the Meet & Greet Service (when traveling with rifles). This service will be arranged for you, to assist in clearing your firearm for entry into South Africa. They will have your permits ready in advance and meet you at the Customs Gate, walk you to the Firearms office and clear you for entry into Africa for approx. $200.00.

There is also a VIP service available, where you’ll be met at the gate, helped with your baggage and firearm, walk you through the process at the Firearms Office and get you clear for entry into South Africa. VIP Service is an additional $80.00 but includes up to 4 people.

Archery equipment doesn’t require any special licensing.  We also rent firearms if hunters choose not to travel with their own.

Arrival at the airport in South Africa

Avula Safaris will pick-up and drop-off guests at the airport.  Ground transportation to/from the airport is one fee of $300.00 per vehicle (3 hunters per vehicle).

Arrival at the safari lodge

Upon arrival clients will be greeted by Avula staff welcoming guests with songs, while guests sip a welcome cocktail. You’ll be introduced to your PH, who will accompany your whole stay with us. You are more than welcome to start your hunting safari immediately, but only once firearms are signed-in and daylight permits.

Personalized South African luxury service

After a morning hunt on a hot day, cold towels will be waiting for you upon your return. On colder days, the towels are heated.

On chilly nights the lodge staff will turn on the electric blankets as part of the turndown service.  They’ll also replenish bottled water at your bedside.

Hot and cold beverages are accessible and available 24 hours a day.

The hunting experience

Avula Safaris PH’s are very knowledgeable and will stop or slow down for you to take photographs and discuss characteristics, gestation, size and habitat of different species, even if the species is not on the client’s hunt wish list.

Avula believes in the conservation of wildlife through hunting. We have great respect for all animals. Your PH has an extensive background in the wildlife, the environment and hunting and will guide you to the best possible outcome during your hunt.

Assisted hunting

Avula PH’s are industry professionals and will assist with all your needs, including any special requirements due to disability or age. They’ll get you on and off vehicles, set up stable shooting platforms and carry equipment.

After the hunt

Avula strives to be sustainable and do the most good for the environment and wildlife. After a successful hunt, none of the animal goes to waste. All meat is harvested and is used.

A percentage of the meat goes to staff and their families. The finest cuts are used in the lodge’s kitchen to create a memorable dining experience. A portion is also donated to the neighbouring community either school feeding programs or similar organizations in the area. You are welcome to accompany Avula staff in delivering the donation to the community; it is a valued tradition for the locals and hunters alike. Trophy and departure

IF IT’S WORTH SHOOTING, IT’S WORTH PRESERVING. Avula Safaris work with a preferred taxidermist supplier for all dip and packing of trophies. Splitting Image Taxidermy is well-known for its service and streamlined precision. Whether you require their full taxidermy service or any other additional services, they can offer you an affordable and efficient trophy and mount solution.

You are free to contract any importer of your choice.  However, if you need assistance in this area, we can offer you a list of shippers to contact. Please keep in mind, you will need quotes for Dip, Pack, Shipping and Clearing to get through customs and quotes are subject to change, depending on dimensions and weight of the cargo.
